Watch Care

Preserving value through proper care

A luxury watch is a masterpiece of precision. With proper storage and regular care, your timepiece remains functional for generations — and retains its value.

Three rules of thumb for care

6–10years

Service

Full service

Mechanical watches require a professional service by a specialist workshop every six to ten years.

12–24months

For reasons of hygiene and value retention, we recommend replacing the strap at this interval.

Cleaning agents

Uncompromising

Never use chemical cleaning agents — they damage gaskets and harm the watch.

Proper storage

Protection from dust, light and moisture

Wristwatches should be kept in a dust-free environment with low humidity — ideally in a suitable watch box. Protect your timepiece from direct sunlight or strong light to prevent discolouration of the dial and hands.

Expert tip

If an **automatic watch** is not worn for an extended period, we recommend storing it in a **watch winder**. This keeps the movement running and prevents the oils from drying out.

Cleaning & care

Material-appropriate cleaning by watch type

Water-resistant watches

Gentle cleaning in three steps

For water-resistant models from 3 bar (30 m), you can gently remove dirt yourself — provided you observe a few basic rules.

How to proceed:

  • Soft cloth — A lightly dampened, lint-free cloth is sufficient for regular care.
  • Lukewarm water — Perfectly adequate for most types of dirt.
  • Dry and polish — Use a dry cloth to remove any remaining water.

Leather straps

Material-friendly treatment

Leather straps are particularly sensitive. Observe these guidelines to preserve material and wearing comfort for the long term.

Avoid:

  • Direct contact with moisture
  • Contact with soap or cleaning agents
  • Chemical substances or perfume
  • Prolonged exposure to sunlight

Important for cleaning

For water-resistant watches, please **never use chemical cleaning agents** — the substances they contain attack the gaskets and can permanently impair water resistance.

Service indicators

How to recognise when a service is due

Mechanical watches are marvels of fine engineering that are subject to constant friction. The following symptoms indicate that your watch needs a professional overhaul.

Timekeeping deviations

Your watch is running noticeably fast or slow. A minor daily deviation is normal — larger deviations are a warning sign.

Stiffness

Winding or setting the time feels stiff or unfamiliar — an indication of dried-out oils or wear in the mechanism.

Reduced power reserve

The watch runs noticeably shorter than specified after a full wind — the mainspring or movement requires attention.
